About the Rana 2.0 preview

The redesigned experience shown on this website is awaiting App Review. It includes iPad and iPhone Duo layouts, optional learned-area background reminders and optional breathing-only Apple Health integration. Private Cloud Compute is a separate opt-in for eligible features. The answers below describe the currently released version; see the 2.0 privacy information for these additions.

Common questions

Is Rana really private?

Yes. Rana has no accounts and no servers of our own. Your journal, check-ins, sobriety data, and locations stay on your iPhone. Nothing is transmitted to us — the App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected." See our Privacy Policy for the full detail.

How much does it cost?

Rana is free — and it always will be. No in-app purchases, no subscriptions, no ads, ever.

Which devices and iOS does it need?

Rana is an iPhone app and uses on-device Apple Intelligence, so it requires a recent iPhone running the latest iOS. It is not available on iPad or Mac at this time.

How do the location check-ins work?

They're off by default and fully opt-in (Settings → Location Check-Ins). When enabled, Rana uses low-power location to send a gentle, private nudge if you linger near a bar or liquor store, or late at night somewhere unfamiliar. Everything is processed on your device and stored coarsely; nothing is shared. You can turn it off anytime.

What languages does Rana support?

English, Punjabi, Canadian French, Mexican Spanish, Italian, and Hindi. On-device Apple Intelligence features aren't available in Punjabi or Hindi yet.

How do I delete my data?

Because everything lives only on your device, deleting the app removes all of your Rana data. There is nothing stored anywhere else.

Is Rana medical treatment?

No. Rana is a supportive, harm-reduction tool — not a substitute for professional treatment or emergency care. If you're in crisis, please contact your local emergency number or a crisis line; Rana keeps helplines one tap away.
